best week ever

I spent Tuesday night and all yesterday sick like I haven't been since my freshman year of high school. I usually don't get sick sick, which I attribute to the fact that I eat food I've dropped on the floor all the time and thus have developed an incredible immune system that is fazed by nothing. Either that or I'm just lucky. But the last two days kicked my ass, and I sat in bed with the dog, drinking Sprite and Gatorade, watching Law and Order but really wishing that I was playing Super Mario Brothers 3 on SuperNintendo. Because that's all I did that week in 1996, and by Friday I was good. I was Mario with a fucking tail and cute little ears.

Today I feel much better, so to tempt fate I'm going to go up to the Cities and see TSB. Because that's how I roll.

  1. Silly girl, Super Mario Brothers 3 is on regular Nintendo not the Super variety.

    Gosh!

  2. No, no! What about the game for SN that had all three old school NES Marios on it? I swear it was real.

  3. It was real. It was called ALL-STARS and it had that "lost levels" game on it, and I owned it.

Except some of the backgrounds were different. On the NES they were blue, and on the All-Stars they were ugly pastel colors and I hated them.

    I want SNES too.

  4. Do you remember Super Mario 2? That game was fucked up. Hidden dimensions and an obsession with turnips (or was it onions?)

I think I still have an Atari 2600 floating around somewhere... now that is old school.

  5. I loved how Super Mario 2 came out and it looked liked an awful acid trip (3 headed snakes, turnips and pumpkins, little cute enemies WITH NO FACES)...and then Super Mario 3 comes out a few years later with all of the stuff people recognized from Super Mario 1. It's like Nintendo said, "Heh heh. Uh....yeah. Sorry about that. We promise not to do that again."

  6. And Super Mario 2 taught kids how to gamble, what with the "free guys" jackpot at the end of each board. That was awesome.

And then you woke up and it was all a dream.

That's right. Super Mario is worth 2 comments from me.
