downtown, saturday
purchased: loads of sweet corn, for winter freezin', wheat bagel with pumpkin cream cheese and fresh coffee, cheap used The Branch Will Not Break and To a Fault, big purple-y bell peppers, bunch of basil, a "slightly imperfect" navy canvas Land's End tote for carrying milk and cases of diet Coke up the stairs (paper bag broke yesterday in the parking lot for the second or third time, and a girl can only pick up her groceries and smashed jars of Classico so many times)
saw: little birds eating little crumbs, rabid red Badger fans drinking 11 am beers and listening to the game, the "honey man," resplendent in hive hat, that I remember seeing in a picture tacked to a former professor's bulletin board during so many junior/senior year poetry conferences
heard: impromptu guitar/washboard/bagpipe/violin solos
winced at: far too many Tevas worn with socks
