20 things that may not be essential to the day, but that help anyway

  1. cheap little plastic dinosaurs
  2. blood oranges
  3. chai tea with soy milk
  4. fine-tip Sharpies
  5. roasted, salted cashews
  6. sweet potatoes
  7. legal pads
  8. poems
  9. wool peacoats with tall, stiff collars
  10. wedges of Cheddar and Pink Lady apples (yes, you have to eat them together—and before you hate it, just try it)
  11. a big mug of black coffee
  12. dogs happy to find you home
  13. Method olive leaf hand soap
  14. a shower
  15. headbands, scarves and bobby pins
  16. a mid-afternoon jaunt to both the park and design*sponge
  17. “A Little Respect”
  18. random little e-mails
  19. knowing the answer to something without having to look it up (bonus points if it’s in response to someone’s query)

Okay, this is totally unrelated to your post but I just saw the link to the blog of unnecessary quotation marks and I had to share: There was a notice - several, actually - posted around the lawyers' library in court today that had not one, but TWO unnecessary quotations. Something about "not" leaving "unattended articles" around the library. Seriously, shouldn't being moderately literate be a prerequisite to working in a library? (erm, "liberry?")

    Ahh, I feel better now. Almost as though enough English majors rolling their eyes can correct bad grammar.

    If only.
