wouldn't it be nice

Mark this week as the first one that finds me thinking of spring. Oh man. Wouldn't it be nice to be packing ballet flats for a mid-winter jaunt down South? Wouldn't it be nice to wake up in the morning and step outside with a cup of coffee to hear the birds? Wouldn't kicking around in a skirt or driving with the window down or feeling sun on your forearm feel good right about now?

And how lovely would it be to meet up for pints on a patio somewhere--on a night where it's just chilly enough to keep your beer crisp. Or to find yourself walking in Piedmont Park and looking up a stone wall to a spray of magenta overhead--the first, bright azaleas of the season.

Le sigh. At least there was blue sky this morning. And temps above zero all this week.

  1. So I was all set to go with next week's post on the running blog about how getting all this winter exercise is good for everyone because no one's complained about SAD yet.

    THANKS A LOT, X.

  2. No, no! It's not SAD yet. The exercise does help enormously--right now it's like winter is my houseguest for the week, and when I wake up in the morning I'm like, Oh, right. Winter is still here. Better see what he wants to do.

Whereas normally at this time of the year I'm like WINTER IS STILL HERE? EATING ALL MY FOOD AND USING UP ALL MY HOT WATER? I HATE THAT FUCKING DOUCHEBAG. I'M GONNA FILL HIS SUITCASE WITH SCORPIONS.

  3. I hate to break it to y'all, but I've had SAD since November. And here in Crochester we've been heartily below zero for some time.

Mmmm. Sun on a forearm. I drank a Blue Moon the other night and spent more time with my nose in the bottleneck than with my lips around it. SMELLS LIKE SUMMER. SMELLS LIKE IT SHOULD BE WARM OUTSIDE.

  5. Ha ha, a herd of SAD runners. With big frowny faces and shit.

Oh, poo, that's just going to be me at mile eighteen in October.
