resolutions: febrero

Six days into February and this is the second morning this week that I've been greeted by not-deathly temperatures; however, I am subtracting points for the fact that those days were separated by a five-degree day that froze my chin. It's even supposed to be forty-five tomorrow.

And yes, I know it's not going to last. I know that it will snow many, many more times. But it's nice while it's here.

Anyway, January's dead for another year or so, and I would like to keep the resolution train rolling a bit longer, so here we go. Last month's are mostly crossed out; I didn't join the Y for a few reasons, including the fact that I twice tried to and both times they couldn't at that exact moment process my paperwork because there is apparently only one man who knows how to register the U discount, and he is always on lunch, even at four o'clock--anyway, I did run a bunch, and I stole some moves from the class at the Y on the day I went as a guest, so I'm okay with a half-resolution. Let's not call that a rez, in case Sherman Alexie gets all pissed. How about 'lution?

Ditto for the student-writing one, but I did curl up with Shackleton for a while and thank god that I was not sleeping in slushy penguin guano. Oh, and this book is like, my new fave.

Otherwise, I even sent Colleen her package, including the Wu-Tang pandas, although the postal worker was snarly about it, and I couldn't help but notice that she had carefully chosen her earrings so that the three holes in each ear were filled with little red, white, and blue sparkle studs, GET IT, BECAUSE SHE WORKS AT THE USPS. And as an interesting side note, I was eating dinner with a friend a few nights later on that side of town and she came in, plopped herself down at the touch-screen console, and proceeded to smoke about a hundred of those wee skinny cigarettes.

So what then in February? Let's try this:

* not get totally freaked out over the idea that spring is still pretty far away, especially when the next few weeks are very very busy with travel to Chicago and MSP, and there will be much running around and seeing some old friends.

* start to figure out what I want to do with the summer course.

* attempt a spectacular recipe; it's been a while since I found myself elbow-deep in shit and flour on the floor. I have a recipe for cardamon-lime sweet rolls that I've been eying, but haven't yet because I don't really need to eat a whole pan of sweet rolls myself. Maybe they can complement the Special Occasion Danish at BockFest?

* work my way through the five freakin' discs of data/new music that the B sent my way instead of maybe listening to trashy music.

* wear more cardigans. I'm amassing quite the collection, but how can you not when they are so cute? especially with gray pants and red shoes?

* find some new boots in brown, or better, red.

* maybe send out some poems in a right-at-the-wire late winter submission. Maybe write some to send out. Maybe not.

* infuse a bunch o' vodka to bring to Elgin (ha! not gin, but vodka! tricky!) and try out. I'm thinking blood-orange and ginger, espresso, and pear-vanilla. Lizard, bring your lab coat and we shall experiment. I will bring the tiny vials.

* get my hands on that cardinal-gun print from Jeano.

Hey, that's enough for this month. It's short anyway. And since most of these aren't real, it shouldn't be that hard, right? Right.
