Be joyous, though you have considered all the facts. (Wendell Berry)
Thank you, 2009, for the following things:
*a day like today
*a dog who likes to sleep on my neck
*a dude who makes me a better person, even in disagreement--especially in disagreement
*a family who always has my back, even if sometimes I forget to call them
*a flight to Minnesota and people who let me eat all their food and still have kind words regarding poetry
*a foot that healed fully
*a job that makes me feel useful and productive, even on the days it knocks me on my ass
*a month without snow thus far (...)
*a set of coworkers that make me want to be a better teacher and writer
*a set of friends who always navigate my spectrum of crazy and make me laugh, even if they are sometimes dark, dark laughs
*a town by a lake, bisected by a river and strung with little white lights
*a warm apartment with radiators that hiss softly and reassuringly, like snakes
*a wedding in Green Bay and Rod Stewart on the dance floor
*a year that challenged me and shook me up and yet did not kill me; a year with very high highs and some pretty low lows; a year that is not quite over; a year that may still bring a book; a year that even sans book will go down as a pretty important one
Now for pie, pie laced with chocolate and bourbon. Take care of yourselves.
This post made me very, very happy.
ReplyDeleteAnd I heard Wendell Berry on Jacksonville's public radio station this morning and spent half the drive to work going Where have I HEARD this name before?? Ah yes. dbdsn. That's where.
Oh, Chadley. There is no public radio in the South, and you don't listen to it. You meant that while rocking out to Lady Gaga, she dropped in some quotations from The Unsettling of America.
ReplyDeleteIt's a common mistake. Don't sweat it.
