file this one under "things I had hoped I would not read"

This article, paragraph seven.

I'm done talking about this. In other news: spring is here! Things are green again! Go hug something. Perhaps a somber-looking author and his pensive dog?

Perhaps a shark, in preparation for the upcoming "Shark Attack"/Graduation Party?

Perhaps not that last one.

  1. Christina, I'm truly and deeply sorry that the individuals that decided the program funding were so completely shortsighted as to overlook the value of the Blue Earth Review literary magazine. It's reprehensibly ignorant for an academic institution to NOT support an academic program when non-academic programs bask in a wealth of fundage. As I read the figures, it seemed obvious to me that if money was an issue then MAYBE the lucrative budget for some of these more social in nature programs should be trimmed a bit. That might mean that less decorations should be purchased. (Balloons and streamers are kinda "high school promish" anyway, right?) It's inconceivable for me that a publication and those who doggedly work to asemble it, should be stricken completely from existence. Especially when they provide the academic institution with validation that academia (in the form of the Literary Arts) is valued and aspired to and made available for public consumption. I know, I'm preaching to the choir here, but know this...despite the outcomes and your best efforts, you did what was right and you now understand even more personally how much we still must fight to protect the Arts from those individuals that just don't "get it". Don't let this defeat you nor deter you (at least not for long), instead, let it serve to rekindle your resolve and prepare you to make preemptive strikes should you ever find yourself in a potentially similar situation.

When you find that the rug tends to get pulled out from under you, get some nails and hammer that sucker to the floor.

We artists gotta support each other the best we can. Stay strong.

    Chris

  3. Thanks, Chris. I appreciate this. But I have to quibble on one thing. Regarding the streamers and balloons - those just make me happy. That's why I chose to use roughly 1/5 of our operating budget to decorate the office accordingly. I mean, who doesn't feel a big ol' smile coming on when they see all those streamers?

Oh, ha ha. I am funny.
