ducks and swans in a row

WHAT. WHAT IS THIS SHIT:

(taken in real time, 2:08 p.m. today)

I know I can't really complain--it is, after all, snowing on daffodils. It is not sticking. It is supposed to head back up into the high forties this week. Plus, I am talking about the weather. On my blog. Could I get any more self-indulgent?

...

Yes.

The snow provides the perfect excuse to stay in and vacuum, make a big pot of Thai chicken-coconut soup, get a head start on lesson plans, listen to ridiculous music, go grocery shopping. All the little Sunday things. Getting my ducks in a row, so to speak.

I like these days if only because it's a few hours to have everything perfect before another week starts. Tomorrow things can go awry. Tomorrow.

The B left this morning, after coffee at the place around the corner. We did a pretty good job of living on top of each other these ten days, even if my complete lack of furniture meant that at one point I was lying on the floor reading while he perched in one of those ugly white chairs from the patio set.

His craft talks/classroom visits/reading went beautifully--it's a thrill to see the undergrads (and professors!) line up afterward to get their broadsides and books signed. He sat down with a few people on the hiring committee on Thursday as well. Keep your fingers crossed for us.

We'd have to find a new place. It's fun to imagine that two people could actually live in this apartment--I imagine they would have to be German architects, the kind who wear extremely stylish eyeglasses and share a wardrobe. They'd get up in the morning, split a French press, wait patiently for the other to be done with the single toothbrush, get dressed to discover that one is wearing the pants that the other had in mind.

We are not that kind of couple.

Anyway. Enjoy a slideshow of the week: I know I've been hitting these things a little hard lately, but I like them. Plus I discovered where the swan boats winter--behind a fence, all in a row. OH THE CONVERGENCES. OH THE CAPITAL LETTERS.
